Happy 25th Birthday OCC!
Whats up Cinema Comrades? Please join me in wishing the Oaks Movie Theatre a very Happy 25th Birthday. In celebration of the anniversary, below is the first and only chapter of my new book “The O.C. and me: The sometimes-true story of the rise and fall and rise again of the Oaks Theatre”
It was a sunny, yet seasonably cold April afternoon in 1999, when Oaks, Pa gave Birth to a beautiful bouncing 24 screen Mega Plex Movie Theatre. The town was elated at the arrival of our cinematic savior, descending upon Oaks to welcome the new theatre. One young bright-eyed 16 year old filled with youthful exuberance, knew it was his fate to cherish and protect the young fledgling cinema. Through the years, the two forged an unbreakable bond that was tested day in and day out, weathering the storms of fate together. It was by no means always an easy journey for the two, as is with any relationship, the duo faced many ups and downs in their partnership. One fateful night in 2022, news from an evil overlord spread through the lands that the Oaks theatre would be shuttering its doors for good. The once vibrant, cinematic hub of endless entertainment was abandoned, and its faithful protector cast out into the abyss.
As the days grew shorter and the seasons changed, the Oaks theatre lay in wait. Waiting for the day that it would rise from the darkened shadow. After many moons had passed, a mystical band of heroes located the Oaks Theatres protector and showed him visions of a brighter future. The visions sparked through his mind showing him a phenomenal landscape of never-ending opportunity. Images of new movies danced through his head, movies like “Monkey Man”, “The First Omen”, “Civil War”, and even a remake of “Don’t tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead”.
The Visions didn’t stop there though, they showed scenes of a Live Family Friendly Magic Show on April 20th featuring renowned Magician/Comedian Gemini and a live Adult Comedy show on April 27th featuring Maureen Langan of “Americas Got Talent”. Reinvigorated by these magical visions, the now old and wise and more handsome protector joined the band of heroes to be reunited with the Oaks Theatre. The dark shadow left by the Evil Overlord was pierced by the vibrant blue glow emanating from the new Oaks Center Cinema. The world rejoiced and a great calm enveloped all the lands.
